Membership
What is Membership?
Membership at Sojourn is not a mere formality but a genuine two-way commitment. It means that you are a part of our family. It means that we belong to each other in love and faithfulness.
Membership means we are committed to you.
As a member, you have a promise—not just from our pastors and leaders, but from all other members—that we will love and care for you. We will build you up in Jesus, speak the truth to you, encourage you, and welcome you. We will treat you like the brother or sister you are to us in Christ.
Membership means you are committed to us.
When you become a member, you promise to care for the church by joining in on our mission, serving and giving, and building up our church body in Christ.
How To Become A Member
Step 1: Membership Class
Our Membership Class is a place to learn what makes us who we are at Sojourn J-Town. It takes place on a Sunday during the 11 am service. During the class, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss membership with one or more of our pastors/ elders. Participation in the Membership Class is required to become a member. This class is not a commitment in any way but simply an opportunity to learn more about membership at our church. We encourage you to read through our bylaws and membership covenant prior to this class.
Step 2: Submit A Membership Application
Step 3: Membership Interview
God calls our Pastors and Staff to shepherd Sojourn J-Town. One of the ways we shepherd well is by knowing those God brings into our church body. That’s why we do a membership interview with each member. This interview isn’t a test. It’s an opportunity for our leaders to hear your story, learn how to pray for you, and care for you in a meaningful way. It’s also an opportunity for those in the process of becoming members of the church to ask questions about the church.
Step 4: Member Installation
Once your interview is completed, and both parties are comfortable with moving forward, you can begin to function as a member. In our next Member Meeting we will introduce you to our church, you will read some liturgy stating your commitment and the church will state their commitment to you as well.
